Title: The Surface Area Defect of the Euclidean Ball and a Polytope
Speaker: Steven Hoehner (Graduate Student, Case Western Reserve University MAMS Department)
Abstract: We want to approximate — as closely as possible — the surface of n-dimensional ball by a polytope with at most N vertices. We show that one can choose P so that the appropriately defined surface area “defect” decreases at the rate N^{-2/(n-1)}.
