During the opening event of Innovation Week, four faculty members were honored with Distinguished Research Awards. Among them was professor Erkki Somersalo, who has earned an international reputation as one of the pioneers of Bayesian inverse problems, and whose research breadth ranges from theoretical partial differential equations to statistical computations, usually motivated by a practical application. Professor Somersalo is passionate about his research and is dedicated to passing on his knowledge and enthusiasm to the next generations though teaching and mentoring. He was honored in 2012 with the John S. Diekhoff Award for Graduate Teaching. More details about the ceremony can be found in the daily announcement.
