Title: Elastic curves in Euclidean space
Speaker: David Singer (Professor and Interim Chair, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, & Statistics, Case Western Reserve University)
Abstract: Using the notion of a Killing Field Along a Curve, we are able to completely integrate the equations of the elastica in Euclidean space. We will describe the process and in particular identify those solutions which are periodic; these include some but not all torus knots.
