Letter from the Chair
Dear alumni and friends,
The Department of Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Statistics (MAMS) at Case Western Reserve University is thriving. Our faculty members have received numerous prestigious honors in recent years, including Dr. Erkki Somersalo’s Guggenheim Fellowship and Dr. Daniela Calvetti’s Simons Fellow in Mathematics, Faculty Distinguished Research Award and SIAM Fellowship.
Additionally, our doctoral program in statistics has reopened and we are excited to welcome new statistics PhD students starting in fall 2025. Please share this information with students who may have interest. As always, we welcome referrals from our alumni and friends.
Our PhD students get plenty of mentoring experience at various stages of their PhD study. We have a faculty/PhD student bonding program, PhD student peer mentoring, PhD student teaching fellow mentoring first time PhD student teacher. We also have a directed reading program run by PhD students to guide undergraduate students for math literature reading.
We’re also pleased to have introduced new graduate and undergraduate courses, further enhancing our academic offerings. Finally, we extend our deepest gratitude to our alumni and friends for their unwavering support and contributions of time, talent and resources, which have been instrumental in our success.
Sincerely,
Weihong Guo
