Elizabeth Meckes Named Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics

Congratulations to Dr. Elizabeth Meckes has been named Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS)

Dr. Meckes has been awarded this Fellowship for contributions to Stein’s method and to random matrix theory. An induction ceremony took place on July 29, 2019, at the Joint Statistical Meetings in Denver, Colorado.

Each Fellow nominee is assessed by a committee of their peers for the award.  In 2019, after reviewing 58 nominations, 25 were selected for Fellowship.  Created in 1935, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics is a member organization which fosters the development and dissemination of the theory and applications of statistics and probability. The IMS has 3,500 active members throughout the world.  Approximately 12% of the current IMS membership has earned the status of fellowship

MAMS Student Daniel Kessler Awarded First Place in the Research ShowCASE+Intersections Symposium

Congratulations to BS/MS student, Daniel Kessler, for earning 1st place in the Research ShowCASE+Intersections Symposium that took place Friday April 19, 2019. Held in conjunction with the Spring Intersections, Research ShowCASE provides evidence of how research brings value to our community and the world. Exhibits of real-world applications, critical insights, and creative and intellectual activities are on view highlighting the full range of research at CWRU. Daniel works with Dr. Weihong Guo under an REU NSF project, conducting work on High Dimensional Tensor Deblurring. Daniel will graduate this May. Congratulations!
