On February 28, 2023, MAMS professors Daniela Calvetti and Erkki Somersalo gave a 3 hour minitutorial on Bayesian Scientific Computing and Probabilistic Programming: Inside and Outside the “Black Box” at the SIAM Conference on Computational Science and Engineering in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The minitutorial, which included a hands-on portion, was based on material regularly taught in the graduate course MATH 439, also offered this coming Fall. The conference has over 2000 attendees and the tutorial was very well attended.

Calvetti and Somersalo also presented their own research talk at the conference, as did their graduate students Mercy Amankwah and Alberto Bocchinfuso.
