CWRU Mathematics Professor Erkki Somersalo has been awarded an honorary doctorate
from the University of Eastern Finland, which was conferred on June 10, 2022:

Prof. Somersalo’s research focuses on computational inverse problems and Bayesian statistical
methods, in particular those related to brain functions.
The award committee cited Professor Somersalo’s long-standing support for the Inverse
Problems Group at the Kuopio Campus as instrumental in its becoming a leading research
group in many fields of computational inverse problems, especially in impedance tomography.
He has also supported the emergence of successful spin-off companies.
